Scientists at Stanford University and the Arc Institute employed AI models, trained on millions of existing bacteriophage genomes, to generate new bacteriophages capable of infecting bacteria. Of the hundreds of potential genomes synthesized, 16 proved viable and demonstrated the ability to kill *E. coli* in laboratory tests.
