Australian man arrested after Thai teen girl found dead in suitcase

An Australian man has been arrested in Thailand following the discovery of a 17-year-old Thai girl's body inside a suitcase. Police detained 46-year-old Simon Peter Carman at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday evening as he attempted to board a flight to Perth, Australia. The arrest came after the teenager's body, identified as Tunchanok Donhomla, was found near a railway line in Pattaya, bearing signs of severe assault.

Authorities stated that CCTV footage reportedly shows Carman entering an apartment with the girl on Thursday, and later leaving alone with a large black suitcase which he transported on a motorbike before the body was discovered. Carman faces charges including murder, concealing a body, and taking a minor for indecent purposes, though he denies the allegations, claiming self-defense amidst a payment dispute.

The victim's family has expressed devastation over her death, with her stepmother calling for the harshest possible punishment. Carman is currently in custody, and if convicted of murder under Thai law, he could face the death penalty or a lengthy prison sentence.
