Bangkok was declared a disaster zone on Saturday, September 26, 2026, following extensive heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding across the Thai capital. All 50 districts of the city were included in the declaration, expanding from an initial three districts, after nearly 48 hours of continuous downpours saw some areas receive up to 300 millimeters of rain. This deluge led to numerous submerged roads and significant disruption to daily life.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt signed the order, emphasizing the risk the flooding posed to residents and both public and private property. The disaster designation empowers the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other state agencies to provide more rapid and systematic assistance in affected areas. Authorities issued warnings for those near canals to move belongings to higher ground, while the city's administration also opened shelters and designated schools for temporary accommodation.

With heavy rain forecast to continue, residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, as major roads remained inundated with cars partly submerged in waist-high water. The army also began establishing shelters and field kitchens to support relief efforts for the thousands of people affected or displaced by the severe flooding.
