Canada wildfires leave train 'encased in flames' as smoke drifts towards US, prompting evacuations

Massive wildfires are currently raging across northern Ontario, Canada, creating dangerous conditions that saw a freight train temporarily "encased in flames" near Armstrong. Dramatic video footage from inside the train's cab captured the intense blaze surrounding the tracks, leading to an urgent rescue of all crew members, who were safely evacuated.

These extensive blazes have severely impacted air quality in Canadian urban centers, with Toronto experiencing hazy skies and some of the worst air quality globally. The smoke plumes are now drifting south, raising concerns about deteriorating air quality in several U.S. cities, including areas preparing for major events like the World Cup final in New Jersey.

Authorities acknowledge the potential for smoke to reach the United States but have indicated that current forecasts do not suggest a repeat of the extreme conditions experienced during the 2023 wildfire season.
