Preliminary Hearing Reveals 'Devastating' Evidence Against Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect

Prosecutors have concluded a preliminary hearing against Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September 2025 at Utah Valley University. During the proceedings, the state presented what it described as "devastating" evidence to a judge, aiming to establish probable cause for the case to proceed to trial. This evidence included surveillance video allegedly showing Robinson's movements on campus before and after the fatal shooting.

Key pieces of evidence presented included a note allegedly left by Robinson for his romantic partner, confessing his intent to kill Kirk, and text messages where he expressed regret and stated he targeted Kirk due to his perceived "hatred." Furthermore, investigators detailed the discovery of a bolt-action rifle, believed to be the murder weapon, found wrapped in a towel nearby, with DNA matching Robinson on its trigger. Bullet casings etched with provocative messages were also found with the weapon.

While the defense challenged the reliability of some DNA and ballistic evidence, prosecutors maintain they have presented overwhelming proof of Robinson's culpability. The judge is expected to rule on September 1 on whether there is sufficient evidence to send the aggravated murder charge to a full trial.
