Charlie Kirk murder suspect told roommate 'he wishes he hadn't done it,' court hears

During recent preliminary court hearings, evidence presented by prosecutors in the murder case of conservative activist Charlie Kirk revealed that the suspect, Tyler Robinson, expressed remorse to his roommate, Lance Twiggs, following the September 2025 shooting. Twiggs, who was also Robinson's romantic partner, testified in a recorded interview that Robinson conveyed regret, stating "he wishes he hadn't done it," the day after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University.

This alleged confession was presented to the court through excerpts from Twiggs' video interview with law enforcement, which included details of text messages where Robinson reportedly admitted to the killing and expressed his motivations. Prosecutors granted Twiggs immunity in exchange for his statements, despite defense attorneys' attempts to prevent the public release of the information, arguing it could prejudice a potential jury.

Robinson currently faces charges of aggravated murder, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty. The preliminary hearing aims to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to a full trial, while Robinson has not yet entered a plea.
