A couple known for extreme urban climbing was arrested on July 1, 2026, after illegally scaling the Empire State Building in New York City. Ivan Kuznetsov, 32, and Angelina Nikolau, 33, both Russian nationals and subjects of a Netflix documentary, ascended the skyscraper's antenna where they unfurled a banner promoting peace and reportedly became engaged.
The daring stunt, which began around noon, saw the pair access the restricted antenna area, possibly by breaching a security door on the 103rd or 104th floor. Police apprehended the mask-wearing duo without incident shortly after, as they descended the spire.
Kuznetsov and Nikolau were subsequently charged with multiple felonies, including burglary, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief. They were released on their own recognizance after their arraignment and are scheduled to appear in court again in late August.
