Five climbers confirmed dead on Russia’s Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak

Five climbers from Bosnia and Herzegovina have died on Russia's Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest peak, after being caught in a violent storm over the weekend. The tragic incident, which occurred around July 24-25, involved a group of seven foreign nationals who were ascending the mountain when weather conditions rapidly deteriorated, causing them to stray from their planned route.

Russian authorities confirmed the deaths, noting that two other climbers from the expedition were rescued and received medical attention. Efforts to recover all the bodies were hampered by severe weather, including strong winds and poor visibility on the mountain.

Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković described the event as a "major tragedy," confirming the victims were from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Media reports from Bosnia indicated that the group hailed from the city of Zenica and included a married couple and a female doctor.
