Mother of Ghanaian boy killed in US seeks justice as investigation continues

The mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy fatally shot last week in the Bronx, New York, has arrived in the United States to seek justice for her son as police investigations continue. Doris Adu Gyamfi departed Ghana on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after her emergency visa was expedited by President Donald Trump following a request from New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. She is in New York to arrange and attend her son's funeral, expressing her profound grief and calling for accountability for those responsible.

Javits Frimpong was shot in the abdomen on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while walking to DreamYard Preparatory School near East 171st Street and Crotona Place. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police are actively searching for three teenage suspects, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, who were captured on surveillance footage fleeing the scene. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Javits' father, Thomas Frimpong, has alleged that his son, who moved to the US from Ghana approximately a year ago, had been experiencing bullying at school, leading to the suspension of two students. However, authorities have not yet confirmed a connection between these bullying claims and the fatal shooting. The Ghanaian government has condemned the killing and pledged to work with US authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and secure justice for the deceased teenager.
