Rare footage captures Great White shark in Mediterranean Sea, exciting marine biologists

Rare underwater footage of a Great White shark has recently been captured in the Mediterranean Sea, marking what is believed to be the first instance of an adult of the species being filmed in its natural habitat in these waters. Volunteer diver Derk Remmers recorded the impressive sighting in late May during a mission to remove abandoned fishing nets from a shipwreck in the Strait of Sicily, with the video released around World Oceans Day on June 8, 2026.
