Child's rape and murder in India sparks widespread mob violence and police killings

The horrific rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, West Bengal, has ignited widespread unrest and resulted in multiple deaths. An autopsy revealed the girl had been raped, suffered a severe head injury, and was thrown into the pond while still alive.

The discovery sparked intense public outrage, leading to violent protests where an angry mob vandalized property and lynched a 26-year-old man, mistakenly believing him to be the perpetrator. In a separate development, the primary suspect, Prabhash Mondal, was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday, July 10, with authorities claiming he attempted to seize an officer's weapon during a crime scene reconstruction.

Dozens have been arrested in connection with the protest-related violence.
