Satellite images show Iran may be trying to rebuild nuclear facilities

Iran is reportedly continuing to strengthen its nuclear infrastructure, with recent satellite imagery indicating ongoing construction and fortification at various sensitive sites, including Parchin, Isfahan, and Natanz. These activities, observed in late 2025 and throughout 2026, involve building reinforced concrete shields and fortifying tunnel entrances, interpreted as measures to guard against potential airstrikes and salvage materials following prior US and Israeli attacks. Some of this construction, particularly near Natanz, is regarded as a violation of the existing US-Iran memorandum of understanding.

Amid these developments, US President Donald Trump declared on July 10, 2026, that while the United States has agreed to Iran's request to continue diplomatic discussions, the previously established "ceasefire is OVER!" This announcement follows a recent escalation of hostilities, marked by Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and subsequent retaliatory strikes by both nations. The fragile truce, which had been in effect since early April and formalized in a mid-June understanding, has now collapsed, though Qatari mediators are currently engaged in efforts to de-escalate tensions in Iran.

Further contributing to the heightened tensions are fresh intelligence reports concerning an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump. Israel recently provided new information to the US on this matter, with Washington having reportedly received a steady stream of intelligence on possible plots for several weeks. President Trump has acknowledged being a target, and this claim emerges against the backdrop of a previously foiled plot in late 2024 and public calls for his death at the recent funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
