Trump says US ‘not in a hurry’ over negotiations with Iran

Former President Donald Trump has reiterated that the United States is not pressuring itself with a timeline for negotiations with Iran, emphasizing that he is "not in a hurry" to reach a deal. This stance comes amid an intensified U.S. economic campaign against Tehran, characterized by new sanctions and a naval blockade of Iranian ports, which the administration has termed "Operation Economic Outcast" or "economic D-Day".

The U.S. strategy relies on sustained economic pressure, with the belief that Iran's struggling economy will eventually force it to negotiate. Reports indicate significant economic hardship within Iran, including an annual inflation rate of approximately 88%, shortages of fuel, and extended lines at gas stations. The Iranian rial has also seen a sharp decline, and oil export revenues have been severely constrained by the sanctions.

Despite these economic challenges, Iranian officials have largely dismissed the U.S. pressure, asserting that previous sanctions campaigns have failed to force their government's capitulation. The Trump administration, however, maintains that its combined economic and military measures are proving effective and expects Tehran to eventually concede to demands, including addressing its nuclear program and ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
