Israel-Palestine tensions rise amid ceasefire violations, Gaza doctor's injuries, and West Bank incident

A prominent Gaza doctor, Hussam Abu Safiya, is reportedly in critical condition and nearly unrecognizable due to severe injuries sustained during 18 months of detention in an Israeli prison without charge or trial. His lawyer, Nasser Odeh, voiced grave concerns for the doctor's life after a recent visit, noting his extreme weakness, difficulty breathing, and visible injuries, prompting the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to call for his immediate release.

Meanwhile, a British charity named "Friends of Yeshivat Shavei Hevron" has reportedly provided nearly £200,000 in funding to a religious school located within an illegal Israeli settlement in Hebron, West Bank, between 2019 and 2024. This funding supports a school central to plans for expanding the settlement, a move approved in June by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich that critics argue breaches an international agreement, with the UK Charity Commission currently reviewing allegations of British charities funding illegal settlements.

Separately, Hamas announced its decision to dissolve its government in Gaza and expressed readiness to transfer authority to a UN-backed technical committee, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), as part of a US-brokered ceasefire agreement. However, this offer has been met with skepticism from Israeli and American officials, who view it as a largely symbolic gesture, particularly as Hamas has not committed to disarming, a key demand of the peace plan, and the NCAG has been prevented from entering Gaza by Israeli blocks.
