IDF admits soldiers fired at car where Hind Rajab was killed; family rejects probe

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have acknowledged that their soldiers fired upon the car in which six-year-old Hind Rajab and six of her family members were killed in January 2024. This admission follows earlier denials by the IDF regarding its troops' presence in the area during the incident. The Israeli military has since ordered a criminal investigation into the killings, which also included two paramedics dispatched to rescue Hind.

Hind Rajab's family, however, has rejected the Israeli military's investigation. They are instead demanding an independent international probe into the deaths, citing a lack of confidence in Israeli military inquiries and the justice system. Hind had made a desperate three-hour phone call to the Palestinian Red Crescent seeking help before contact was lost, and her body, along with those of her relatives and the paramedics, was recovered days later. Critics and human rights groups often note that such internal investigations rarely result in convictions for Israeli soldiers.
