Sen. Mitch McConnell Discharged from Rehab, Will Continue Recovery at Home

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, was discharged from a rehabilitation center on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He will continue his recovery from a fall at his home, where he plans to maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy.

McConnell, 84, was hospitalized on June 14 after suffering a fall at his Washington, D.C. residence, which briefly rendered him unconscious. During his hospitalization, he also received treatment for a mild case of pneumonia.

While his medical team has not yet cleared him to return to his full Senate duties, McConnell stated he will remain engaged with his staff and colleagues on important Senate business. His recovery plan includes continued physical therapy aimed at rebuilding strength and reducing the risk of future falls, a process complicated by his childhood experience with polio.
