Initially, the NYPD had halted watch parties in late May following unruly fan behavior and arrests during the Eastern Conference Finals. More recently, for Game 3, a watch party was denied, with some reports linking it to a presidential visit and heightened security, while for Game 4, the event was outright canceled amid criticism from Knicks owner James Dolan regarding stringent city security measures, which officials defended as necessary for public safety due to previous incidents.
