Russia targets Ukrainian civilians at gas stations; gymnast tells story through dance

Russian forces have recently intensified a campaign of drone strikes targeting civilian gas stations and transport infrastructure across Ukraine. Since spring 2026, approximately 200 fuel stations have been damaged or destroyed, with attacks escalating significantly in June and July to up to 20 strikes per week in some areas. These actions, reportedly carried out using various drones, aim to complicate civilian life, potentially encourage displacement, and are viewed by Ukrainian officials as retaliation for attacks on Russian oil facilities. The strikes have resulted in casualties, including one death and several injuries.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, 10-year-old Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast Oleksandra Paskal, who lost her leg in a 2022 Russian missile attack in the Odesa region, is sharing her story globally through dance. Despite her severe injury, Oleksandra returned to gymnastics with a prosthetic leg and is currently on an international "Dance of Freedom" tour, performing in cities such as New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and Nairobi. Her performances serve as a powerful message, reminding the world of the continuing war and the resilience of Ukrainian children, with her ultimate goal being to represent Ukraine in the Paralympic Games.
