'Completely charred': Spain battles epicentre of wildfires as homes razed and people flee

Devastating wildfires have swept through southern Spain, particularly impacting the Los Gallardos area of Almería Province in Andalusia, leaving a landscape "completely charred" in their wake. The blazes, which ignited around July 9, 2026, have tragically claimed at least 12 lives, with numerous others injured and 23 people reported missing.
