'Spider-Man of Yemen' dies in tragic fall while climbing volcanic crater

The Yemeni adventurer known as "The Spider-Man of Yemen," Al-Qa'qa' bin Antar, has tragically died after a fall into a volcanic crater. The 30-year-old social media personality, famed for his daring free solo climbs without safety equipment, lost his grip while scaling the steep walls of the Hardah Dam volcanic crater in Yemen's southern Dhale province on Friday, June 12.

The Hardah Dam crater, approximately 120 meters (393 feet) deep, presented challenging conditions for rescue teams, including a hot, sulfurous lake at its base. After a complex operation lasting nearly 24 hours, his body was recovered from about 30 meters (100 feet) below the water's surface on Saturday. Civil defense authorities have since urged climbers to adhere to safety protocols and utilize appropriate protective gear for such activities.
