Scale of devastation shocks US city's fire-seasoned residents

Spokane, Washington, has been grappling with a devastating series of wildfires that have shocked even its most experienced residents, with a retired fire marshal describing the situation as "unprecedented." The infernos, primarily the Old Trails, Autumn Lane, and Fairview fires, collectively scorched over 10,000 acres and forced the evacuation of approximately 67,000 people from their homes in early August 2026.
