Thai School Shooter Watched Violent Online Content, Police Say

Thai police have revealed that a 14-year-old boy, accused of a deadly school shooting outside Bangkok, had consumed violent content online and learned gun usage through social media. The rampage, which occurred last Friday, began when the teenager allegedly shot his grandparents at home before proceeding to his school. There, he killed at least six other individuals, including five teachers and staff and one student, before taking his own life. The death toll from the incident rose to at least nine, including the shooter, after a 12-year-old victim later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Investigators discovered evidence on the suspect's computer indicating he had viewed violent content on social media platforms. Police reports also suggest the boy had developed an interest in firearms over the past one to two years and had previously had an air gun confiscated by a teacher in 2025. This tragic event has prompted the Thai government to commit to new school safety protocols, including mental health assessments and stricter measures to prevent weapons from entering educational institutions.
