Hurricane Isaias Batters US Gulf Coast, Leaving Hundreds of Thousands Without Power

Hurricane Isaias made landfall on the US Gulf Coast, striking near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 hurricane. The powerful storm brought maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, impacting communities across the Florida Panhandle and extending into Alabama and Georgia.

The hurricane caused widespread disruption, leaving nearly 900,000 customers without electricity across the affected states. Strong winds downed trees and power lines, with wind gusts reaching over 100 mph in some areas along the Florida Gulf Coast. Coastal flooding was also reported, and authorities issued warnings for potential spinoff tornadoes in parts of Florida and southern Georgia.

Emergency services in some Panhandle counties were temporarily suspended due to the dangerous conditions. While Isaias weakened to a post-tropical cyclone after moving inland, remnants of the storm continued to pose threats of heavy rain and flooding across the Southeast.
