Trump Adviser Loses Jan 6 Appeal; Trump Downplays Chinese Election Interference

Former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro has lost his appeal against a contempt of Congress conviction related to his refusal to cooperate with the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. A federal appeals court upheld Navarro's conviction on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, for defying a subpoena for documents and testimony. Navarro had been found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress in 2023 and had previously attempted to prevent his jail sentence and secure a new trial. During his earlier address, President Trump had also accused intelligence agencies of suppressing information about China's alleged meddling in the 2020 election. However, in his more recent comments, he did not mention any potential sanctions or retaliatory measures against Beijing, adopting a notably softer tone. U.S. intelligence agencies have consistently maintained that no foreign adversary altered votes or changed the outcome of the 2020 election.
