Two senior FBI agents ousted over probe into calls to Trump adviser's wife

Former President Donald Trump has recently criticized Republican Representative Maria Elvira Salazar, reposting a series of social media attacks after the Florida congresswoman publicly stated that some of his administration's immigration enforcement efforts had "gone too far". Other Republican figures, including Senator Lisa Murkowski, have similarly faced Trump's condemnation for diverging from his political stances, with Murkowski being labeled a "traitor" for her vote against a judicial nominee.

In a separate development, two senior FBI counterterrorism agents in the nation's capital were removed from their roles due to dissatisfaction with their handling of an investigation involving alleged harassing phone calls to Katie Miller, wife of former senior White House adviser Stephen Miller. The agents were reportedly ousted after determining that the calls did not meet the threshold for a full FBI investigation or indicate a nexus to terrorism, a decision that reportedly displeased bureau leadership.

Concurrently, the administration has proceeded with plans to cancel over $800 million in federal funding, a significant portion of which is directed at refugee services and other immigrant-focused programs. This "pocket rescission" has drawn bipartisan criticism from lawmakers who assert it undermines Congress's constitutional authority over government spending. The cuts, alongside earlier executive orders suspending refugee programs, have prompted legal challenges from various refugee aid and civil rights organizations.
