Prosecutors now contend that the extensive damage was primarily due to a "flawed" and "botched installation" by a contractor, coupled with a rushed completion for the America 250 celebrations, contradicting earlier claims by President Trump blaming vandals. Trump, however, publicly disagreed with the DOJ's decision, maintaining that vandalism was the primary cause of the damage.
