Six months on, Trump’s Iran strategy risks wider crises; US not talking to Tehran

Six months into President Trump's administration, the United States adopted an aggressive stance toward Iran, signaling a marked departure from the previous administration's engagement-oriented approach. Immediately following his inauguration, President Trump's White House put Iran "on notice" in January 2017 after ballistic missile tests, leading to initial sanctions against Iranian entities suspected of involvement in its missile program. By October 2017, after a strategic review, the administration publicly unveiled a new strategy aimed at confronting Iran's "destructive actions" and preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons, indicating a tough rhetorical line and a comprehensive policy shift.
