British Honeymooners Killed in Tragic Helicopter Crash on Greek Island

A British honeymooning couple and their pilot were tragically killed yesterday in a helicopter crash on the Greek island of Sifnos. Alexander Cromie, 31, and Marie Ebert, 30, from Britain, along with their 55-year-old Greek pilot, Giorgos Raikos, died when their privately chartered Bell 206 helicopter crashed just moments before its scheduled landing at approximately 6:15 PM local time. The aircraft had departed from Markopoulo, near Athens, en route to the popular holiday island.

Local residents reported hearing a "strange" or "bizarre engine noise" coming from the helicopter just before it plummeted to the ground and erupted into a fireball near the helipad in the Tholos area of Sifnos. CCTV footage is reportedly being reviewed, showing the aircraft spiraling out of control as it approached the landing site.

Greek authorities are currently investigating the incident, with a mechanical fault being the suspected cause. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, extinguishing the blaze and recovering the remains of all three victims from the wreckage. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were reported as normal, with no strong winds.
