Ukraine launches major drone attack on Moscow, hitting satellite center and killing a baby

Ukraine launched a significant drone attack on Russian territory, including the Moscow region, on June 30, 2026. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck the Dubna Space Communications Center, a facility described as crucial for Russian military reconnaissance and coordination in Ukraine. This marks the second reported attack on the satellite center in a week.

Tragically, the widespread drone activity resulted in civilian casualties. Authorities in the Moscow region reported that a six-month-old infant died after a drone crashed into a private residence in Yegoryevsk, causing a fire. Two adults and another child from the same incident were hospitalized. Additionally, an elderly woman was killed in the Tver region by falling drone debris, and a man died in Belgorod from a separate drone attack, bringing the total reported civilian fatalities across Russia to at least three.

Russian defense forces claimed to have intercepted 419 Ukrainian drones overnight across various regions, with 56 reportedly targeting Moscow. The drone activity also led to temporary suspensions of operations at Moscow's Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports.
