Russian strike kills 37 in Kyiv, nuclear plant without external power for over a week

A recent Russian drone strike on a weapons depot near Kyiv has resulted in the deaths of at least 37 individuals, making it the deadliest attack of its kind this year. The strike on the warehouse, located in the village of Myla in the Bucha district, triggered significant explosions and a large fire, damaging at least 50 residential buildings and a care home. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has initiated an investigation into potential official negligence regarding the storage of munitions in close proximity to residential areas.

Concurrently, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been operating on emergency diesel generators for over a week due to a loss of external power. This situation has raised safety concerns, as the plant, Europe's largest, requires power to cool its six non-operating reactors and reportedly has only a ten-day supply of diesel fuel remaining. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is attempting to negotiate a local ceasefire to facilitate repairs to the damaged electrical lines and restore a stable power supply to the facility.
