Zelenskyy Says Russia Ignored Trump's Ceasefire Call as NATO Plans New Russia Strategy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Russia disregarded a recent "energy ceasefire" announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump, as Russian forces launched new attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Trump had claimed on October 11, 2026, via Truth Social, that an "energy ceasefire" was immediately effective, with both Russia and Ukraine agreeing to halt strikes on each other's energy facilities. However, Zelenskyy indicated he was unaware of such an agreement and learned about it through media reports. Following Trump's announcement, Russia conducted targeted strikes on a power plant in Kharkiv and other critical infrastructure across Ukrainian regions, leading Zelenskyy to accuse Moscow of ignoring the proposed ceasefire. He noted that Ukraine had paused its own strikes on Russian oil refineries for two days in response to the proposal.

This development occurred amidst heightened activity by NATO, which unveiled a new comprehensive defense strategy aimed at deterring potential Russian aggression. Dubbed the "Theory of Victory," this strategy was presented by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, at the Warsaw Security Forum on October 12, 2026. The plan, whose classified version was finalized months prior, focuses on rapidly repelling an attack on NATO's eastern flank by integrating advanced technologies like drones and artificial intelligence. Key components include establishing an "unmanned zone of operations" and preparing up to 300,000 troops for quick deployment to counter Russian forces.
