UN inquiry accuses Israel of Gaza genocide; Lebanon talks and border tensions escalate

A recent report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, released on June 23, 2026, accuses Israel of committing genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank. The inquiry specifically alleges that Israeli authorities and security forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children, identifying this as a crucial factor in establishing genocidal intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza, in whole or in part.

The commission's findings indicate that around 30% of all fatalities in the Gaza conflict were children, with evidence suggesting that deliberate targeting and killings persisted even after a ceasefire implemented in October 2025. The report also detailed severe impacts on children's health and development due to imposed living conditions, including attacks on healthcare facilities and the blockade of aid, leading to preventable deaths and trauma.

Israel has vehemently rejected the report's conclusions, labeling it as a "defamatory advocacy report" and a "libelous sham." Israeli officials maintain that the report disregards the tactics of Hamas, which they assert operates within densely populated civilian areas.
