US bans new Chinese humanoid robots citing 'unacceptable risks' in tech race

The United States has implemented a ban on new Chinese-made humanoid robots, as well as quadruped robots and connected power inverters, citing national security concerns and "unacceptable risks" amidst an escalating technological rivalry with China. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued the directive, adding these advanced robotic devices and power inverters to its "Covered List," effectively prohibiting their importation and sale in the U.S.. This measure aims to safeguard critical supply chains and prevent potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities, data collection by foreign powers, and remote commandeering of these devices.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr stated that the agency's move, made "following President Trump's leadership," is intended to secure America's critical supply chains and aligns with the efforts of national security agencies. The ban applies to new models that have not yet received FCC authorization, though existing devices already in the U.S. are not affected.
