US releases Iran peace plan; Trump says deal averts ‘worldwide depression’

The United States has announced a preliminary 14-point agreement with Iran, with President Donald Trump asserting that the deal is crucial for averting a potential worldwide economic depression. This memorandum of understanding follows months of heightened tensions and conflict, aiming to establish a ceasefire and normalize key regional activities.

Central to the agreement are provisions for the immediate cessation of military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon, and the full reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which was previously impacted by hostilities. Additionally, the deal allows for the resumption of Iranian oil exports and initiates discussions for a significant reconstruction fund for Iran. The understanding also addresses Iran's nuclear program, including the disposition of its enriched uranium stockpile, with a formal signing ceremony anticipated on Friday.

However, President Trump has underscored that the current agreement is not yet final, issuing a warning that military action could resume if Iran deviates from the terms. The interim deal has already drawn criticism from some quarters, particularly concerning the concessions made to Tehran.
