Despite US President Donald Trump's assertion that Iran had requested a direct meeting on June 30, Iranian officials have vehemently denied any scheduled face-to-face negotiations with American counterparts. Tehran clarified that its delegation is in Qatar to discuss the practical implementation of existing agreements, including the release of frozen assets, through indirect diplomatic channels.

Qatari authorities have corroborated the presence of US envoys in Doha but confirmed that direct discussions with the Iranian delegation are not on the agenda for the current round of talks. This diplomatic push unfolds amidst recent military tensions and conflicting statements regarding a ceasefire and the crucial Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the delicate nature of ongoing mediation efforts.
