Democratic Senators Richard Blumenthal, Ruben Gallego, and Mark Kelly, alongside House Democrats, have pressed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao for answers. Senator Blumenthal expressed "serious concerns" about the extended deployment, linking it to the Navy's capacity to maintain operational tempo amidst ongoing conflicts. While the Navy acknowledged one incident where a sailor went overboard and was safely recovered, Defense Secretary Hegseth has dismissed the broader reports of deteriorating conditions as "completely misrepresented," asserting that the Navy provides all necessary resources to its crews.
