Teenager arrested in Virginia State University shooting; Michigan sees 6 dead

A shooting incident at Virginia State University early Saturday morning left five individuals wounded, prompting a campus lockdown. Police responded around 1:30 a.m. near the university's Quad Annexes, where they discovered the victims outside dormitories. Four of the injured individuals were not students, while one 20-year-old student, who has since been released from the hospital, was among those hurt. One victim sustained critical injuries, while the others suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

Authorities arrested 19-year-old Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, who was found hiding in a dormitory closet on campus. Harris is not a student at the university. He faces eight felony warrants, including charges for malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The shooting occurred just as students were preparing for the new academic year, with residence halls having opened recently and classes set to resume on Monday. While authorities initially stated they were searching for multiple suspects, police later confirmed Harris's arrest without providing further details on additional individuals. The campus lockdown was lifted after law enforcement determined there was no immediate ongoing threat to the community, and a motive for the shooting has not yet been released.
