WNBA Player's 'White Privilege' Post After Ejection Ignites Controversy

Chicago Sky player DiJonai Carrington was ejected from a WNBA game against the Indiana Fever after committing a Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham. During the first quarter, Carrington fouled Cunningham, who is white, from behind while Cunningham was attempting a fast-break layup, making contact with her head and neck and sending her to the court. The play was reviewed and subsequently upgraded to a Flagrant 2, leading to Carrington's automatic ejection from the game.

Following her ejection, Carrington, who is Black, posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on social media, tagging the Indiana Fever. Cunningham quickly got up to confront Carrington and later stated she believed the foul was intentional and unnecessary, also adding that the social media post had "nothing to do with race". Fever coach Stephanie White described it as a hard foul but did not believe Carrington intentionally aimed for Cunningham's neck.
