Zelenskyy Decries 'Unjust' Lack of Warning from Allies After Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv Power Plant

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently voiced strong frustration over the lack of advance warning from allied nations before Russian ballistic missile attacks targeted Kyiv. On both October 12th and 13th, 2026, Russian missiles struck civilian infrastructure, including a key power plant in the capital, with Ukraine receiving no prior intelligence from its partners regarding these impending strikes. Zelenskyy underscored that such intelligence is vital for saving lives.

This absence of warning comes amid reports that U.S. officials had threatened to cease intelligence sharing with Ukraine unless it halted strikes on Russian oil refineries, though U.S. President Donald Trump denied any cessation of intelligence cooperation. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, however, suggested the delay in alerts might be attributable to a "special type" of Russian weaponry being used.

The Ukrainian Air Force has confirmed that no advance notification of the missile launches was received through standard channels and is currently investigating the reasons behind this critical intelligence gap. The strikes resulted in casualties and damage to residential buildings, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of Ukrainian cities to such attacks without timely warnings.
