Teenager captured after 11 shot at Turkish high school; gunman opens fire near campus

A shooting incident near a high school in Turgutlu, a district in western Turkey's Manisa province, has left at least eleven people wounded. The attack occurred on Tuesday morning near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, with several of the injured reportedly students. Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, and medical teams transported the casualties to nearby hospitals for treatment, with at least two individuals reported to be in serious condition.

The suspected gunman, identified as a 15-year-old student from the school, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Reports indicate the assailant used a shotgun, which he allegedly obtained from his grandmother's home. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, though claims of bullying are being examined.

This event follows two other deadly school shootings in Turkey earlier this year, prompting the government to implement heightened security measures and stricter gun controls for the current 2026-2027 academic year. In the aftermath of the latest attack, anxious parents converged on the school, leading to minor confrontations with law enforcement personnel. As part of the ongoing inquiry, the shooter's parents and grandfather have also been taken into custody.
